Nike came to us as a sickly kitten who we feared would not survive very long…and now has the chance to be saved. After many months of difficulty breathing and with balance, a CT scan today gave him the diagnoses of a rare but serious condition:  nasopharyngeal polyps (ear polyps) in both ears. Currently unable to stand or eat without assistance, surgery was the only way to save his life.

UPDATE as of 04/24/2012: The CT scan shows a grim picture – growths in BOTH ears. Tomorrow’s operation will be extensive.  The bill we paid just today totaled $4,680, and we estimate the total could be as high as $8,000.

Friends, this life-saving surgery for Nike will empty our entire account – but it will save his life. WHAT ELSE COULD WE DO? Nike is so impaired by this disease that he cannot stand up or eat on his own. His foster mom has to literally hand-feed him baby food, as well as put him in the litter box while holding him up to go. His hearing is also impaired, and you can clearly see that he is confused and depressed.

Helping Nike was our only choice. But now we need YOUR HELP to cover the overwhelming expenses before us so we can continue to help the other cats and kittens in our care.  Please, please…give.

UPDATE 4/30/12: Please keep Nike and his foster mom in your prayers. He came home from the specialist on Saturday but had to be rushed back on Sunday. It appears he has a very resistant infection and is once again fighting for his life. This poor, poor kitten…
