Nike Recovery Update

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Nike

Our friend Nike is recovering well.  He came back to his foster home May 8 and has been on the mend — and even playing — ever since.  Now, our volunteers need help recovering our bank account. His total at the Specialist’s Office was $6562.80. We were able to pay the bill but we emptied the bank account.

So far, we have raised $3,300 JUST FOR NIKE — just a little over half. We still need help, please.  You can donate through PayPal (or Chip-in) or send a check directly to us. ALL DONORS will get mailed a receipt for your taxes. PLEASE HELP US HELP THE KITTIES.

Pet Food Recall

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Several leading brands of dog and cat food have been voluntarily recalled by Diamond Pet Foods after at least 14 people nationwide contracted salmonella poisoning.  All 14 people reportedly handled food manufactured at Diamond Pet Foods’ South Carolina manufacturing facility — the same facility that was involved in a toxic mold incident in 2005, which killed a large number of animals.  No animals have been reported to have been sickened in this latest instance.

Read a list of updates of brands involved in the recall.  Brands include Natural Balance, Canidae and Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul.

Glassboro Fifth-Graders Kick Off Fundraiser

Friday, May 4th, 2012

Nike, a handsome orange tabby kitten, required a life saving surgery last week.  The bill was $6000, leaving non-profit Furrever Friends Rescue with an empty bank account.

Students from Ambassador Christian Academy (Glassboro, NJ) will kick off a 3 day long bake sale fundraiser this weekend at the Petsmart in Deptford, NJ.  Ms. Civile’s 5th Grade Class will be selling desserts that they baked from Noon until 3pm.  Furrever Friends volunteers will continue the bake sale on Friday from 3pm until 9pm, on Saturday from 11am until 9pm and on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Ms. Civile’s class is also collecting cat food and supplies to help the rescue group.

100% of the proceeds raised at the bake sale will help to replenish the $6000 used to save Nike’s life.  This will allow Furrever Friends to provide medical care and food to the additional 60 cats and kittens currently in their care.

Nike came to Furrever Friends as an 8 week old kitten with severe respiratory issues.  He was unable to stand or eat on his own.  After many conventional treatments and one failed surgery, a CT Scan found the problem.  Nike was diagnosed with a rare but serious condition, nasopharyngeal polyps, in both ears.  Only a specialist could perform the surgery to remove the polyps.  Nike is still recovering at the veterinary hospital but is expected to be able to return to his foster home this next week.

Furrever Friends is a 501c3 cat rescue that is powered entirely by volunteers.  Cats and kittens are cared for in private foster homes until they are adopted.  Many of the cats are showcased at the Petsmart in Deptford, NJ.
