Glassboro Fifth-Graders Kick Off Fundraiser

Friday, May 4th, 2012

Nike, a handsome orange tabby kitten, required a life saving surgery last week.  The bill was $6000, leaving non-profit Furrever Friends Rescue with an empty bank account.

Students from Ambassador Christian Academy (Glassboro, NJ) will kick off a 3 day long bake sale fundraiser this weekend at the Petsmart in Deptford, NJ.  Ms. Civile’s 5th Grade Class will be selling desserts that they baked from Noon until 3pm.  Furrever Friends volunteers will continue the bake sale on Friday from 3pm until 9pm, on Saturday from 11am until 9pm and on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Ms. Civile’s class is also collecting cat food and supplies to help the rescue group.

100% of the proceeds raised at the bake sale will help to replenish the $6000 used to save Nike’s life.  This will allow Furrever Friends to provide medical care and food to the additional 60 cats and kittens currently in their care.

Nike came to Furrever Friends as an 8 week old kitten with severe respiratory issues.  He was unable to stand or eat on his own.  After many conventional treatments and one failed surgery, a CT Scan found the problem.  Nike was diagnosed with a rare but serious condition, nasopharyngeal polyps, in both ears.  Only a specialist could perform the surgery to remove the polyps.  Nike is still recovering at the veterinary hospital but is expected to be able to return to his foster home this next week.

Furrever Friends is a 501c3 cat rescue that is powered entirely by volunteers.  Cats and kittens are cared for in private foster homes until they are adopted.  Many of the cats are showcased at the Petsmart in Deptford, NJ.

Precious Cat Donates Two Tons of Cat Litter

Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

Dr Elseys Precious Cat ProductsIn late March, Englewood, Colorado-based cat litter manufacturer Precious Cat kindly donated 56 40-lb bags of Precious Cat Ultra cat litter and 100 20-lb bags of Cat Attract litter to Furrever Friends Rescue and Volunteers, Inc. The large bags of litter will be used in foster homes throughout Southern New Jersey for homeless cats, while the Cat Attract will be given out with each cat adoption.

The 4,240 lb donation was first delivered to loading docks at the Deptford PetSmart for safe keeping. Later, over a dozen volunteers reloaded the litter on to trucks, where it was restacked in a garage for storage. Foster parents of Furrever Friends animals will be able to use the litter all year to help care for homeless cats who are awaiting adoption.

Furrever Friends has always counted on Precious Cat products as one of many steps to help determine if a cat’s urinary condition is medical or behavioral. Furrever Friends often receives unwanted cats from cat guardians when the animal stops using the litter box. Inappropriate elimination is the number one behavioral reason cats are abused and surrendered to shelters. Precious Cat’s goal is to help keep cats in their homes and using the litter box.

One Furrever Friends foster home recently renovated a garage into a sanctuary for cats with litter box issues. These cats would normally be euthanized at county shelters, but Furrever Friends wants to give them a chance at a happy life. Cat Attract Litter additive is used in all the litter boxes at this facility, and caretakers are convinced that it does encourage the cats to use the box.

“We have had many cats returned to us over the years because the feline stopped using the box. In almost all cases, the cause is a simple urinary tract infection,” explains foster Jen Andersch. “Precious Cat products are an essential part of our program when retraining cats to use a box. We continue to recommend it to anyone that runs into this issue.”
