Surrender Policy

Furrever Friends, by contract, will take back ANY cat adopted from our organization.  If you adopted a cat from us and must return it, contact us online or email us at info@furreverfriends.org

Due to the overwhelming amount of requests for help, Furrever Friends CANNOT accept surrendered cats that were not adopted from us. Please check this page again for any changes to our status.

However, submitting to be on our wait list could result in a home for your pet.  If we get a request for a certain type of cat, a cat of a certain age, or perhaps one that is already declawed, we do refer to the wait list to see if a match can be made.

To apply for our wait list, email info@furreverfriends.org (title your email "WAIT LIST REQUEST").  You must provide all of the following information (incomplete requests will not be honored):

  • Your full name, address, email address, and telephone number with area code
  • Name of pet, Breed of Pet, Color of Pet, Gender of Pet, Age of Pet
  • Description of Personality of Pet (likes/dislikes)
  • Reason(s) you are giving up the pet
  • Vet care status: Is the pet spayed or neutered? Is the pet up-to-date on its rabies and distemper vaccinations? Has the cat been tested for FIV/FELV? And do you have the paperwork from a veterinarian to verify this?

Read about alternatives to surrendering an animal on our page explaining How You Can Find a Cat a Home.

Yet another option is a "courtesy post" on our list on Petfinder.com, which will advertise your animal to potential adopters nationwide.  Petfinder.com receives thousands of visitors daily; your animal will also appear on this (furreverfriends.org) website.  However, you will be responsible for reviewing potential adopters, and they will contact you directly via email.  Contact us for additional information, or email us at info@furreverfriends.org (title your email "PETFINDER REQUEST").

When Furrever Friends intakes animals, there is a $50 surrender fee. In addition, you must complete a release of custody agreement stating...

  • That the animal is spayed/neutered, up-to-date with shots, and healthy to the best of your knowledge
  • Behavioral characteristics, including whether the animal has ever bitten anyone
  • Your name and contact information
  • That you relinquish all claims to the animal.
